THE MECHANISM

How GLP-1 therapy works

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It acts on a hormone receptor involved in appetite, digestion, and blood sugar, and is used alongside changes in diet and activity. Your provider monitors you at every visit.

Slows gastric emptying — food stays in the stomach longer, extending fullness.

Dampens appetite signaling — reduces hunger cues from the hypothalamus.

Improves insulin sensitivity — supports steadier blood sugar response.

OUR APPROACH  ·  HOUSTON, TX

Semaglutide Therapy — The Huemn Approach

Personalized Metabolic & Weight Management Care — Houston, TX

Metabolic health influences your weight, energy levels, cardiovascular health, and long-term wellness. When you choose Huemn for semaglutide therapy, you aren't just receiving a generic prescription from a provider who hasn't reviewed your history. You are working with a Houston-based medical team that listens, assesses, and builds a plan around your health history and goals.

01

Comprehensive Consultation & Assessment

Your semaglutide journey begins with a thorough in-person consultation—not a rushed 10-minute video call. We review your complete health history, current metabolic markers, weight loss obstacles, and long-term health goals. Relevant labs (HbA1c, fasting insulin, lipid panels, and thyroid function) may be requested to establish your baseline and rule out contraindications. By the end of the consultation, you'll know whether semaglutide is appropriate for you and what your options are.

02

Licensed Pharmacy Dispensing

When prescribed, your medication is prepared for you as an individual patient. Compounded medications are prepared by a licensed U.S. compounding pharmacy (Empower Pharmacy or Olympia Pharmacy), not by Huemn. Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved, and the FDA does not verify their safety, effectiveness or quality. Your provider will explain this before you start.

03

Your Personalized Semaglutide Protocol

Based on your consultation findings, your provider designs your protocol covering dosage (starting at the lowest dose and adjusting based on individual response), administration method (injection under the skin), and any complementary care—such as nutritional counseling—that may fit your goals. We walk you through every element of the protocol in plain language, including possible side effects and the full cost, before you begin.

04

Ongoing Monitoring, Check-Ins & Protocol Adjustments

Semaglutide is not a quick fix. Throughout your treatment, our team is available for questions, side-effect concerns, and in-clinic check-ins. We track how you are feeling and review your biomarkers to plan the next step—whether that's a dosage change, a maintenance phase, or stopping treatment. Results vary, and weight may return if medication is stopped.

LOCAL ACCESS

Behuemn Health & Wellness is located in Houston, TX. We serve patients throughout Greater Houston including Houston Heights, Memorial, The Woodlands, Sugar Land, Katy, and Pearland. All care is provided in person; we do not offer telehealth.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Semaglutide — common questions

Huemn's semaglutide protocol fee starts at $99/mo. This covers your prescriber consult and ongoing protocol management. Lab and pharmacy costs are billed separately and discussed at your consult.

The most common side effects are nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, and stomach pain. Serious risks include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, low blood sugar, kidney problems, and allergic reactions, and semaglutide carries a boxed warning about a possible risk of thyroid C-cell tumors. Your care team monitors side effects at every visit.

Results vary from person to person and are not guaranteed. Your provider will set realistic goals with you at your consult and review your progress, including at the week 12 lab review.

Both are GLP-1–based therapies. Semaglutide acts on one receptor (GLP-1); tirzepatide also acts on the GIP receptor. Your prescriber will discuss which option, if any, is appropriate based on your health history, goals, and budget at consult.

All care is provided in person at our Vintage Park or MKT Heights location. At regular in-clinic visits, your care team administers or oversees your injection, checks in on side effects, and tracks your progress. We do not offer telehealth.

No. Compounded medications are prepared by a licensed U.S. compounding pharmacy (Empower Pharmacy or Olympia Pharmacy), not by Huemn. Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved, and the FDA does not verify their safety, effectiveness or quality. Your provider will explain the risks and alternatives before you start.

Appetite-suppressing effects gradually taper off after stopping, and weight regain is common without continued lifestyle support. Your prescriber will discuss a maintenance plan or tapering schedule at your re-labs review so the transition off the protocol is managed, not abrupt.

The protocol fee is HSA and FSA eligible. Huemn does not bill insurance directly for compounded medications, but your prescriber can provide documentation you may be able to submit to your insurer for potential reimbursement.

Every protocol is reviewed by Medical Director Dr. Syed Jamal, MD. Day-to-day prescribing is handled by Dr. Juan Garcia and Michael Blanco, APRN, under his oversight.

Your consult includes cardiometabolic baseline labs — typically HbA1c, fasting insulin, a lipid panel, and thyroid function — to establish your starting point and rule out contraindications. Additional labs may be ordered based on your personal health history.

Some patients are on GLP-1 therapy and hormone replacement therapy at the same time under physician supervision. Your prescriber will review your full medication list at consult to check for interactions or contraindications.
